Designs for AlUla International Airport expansion revealed by Saudi authorities

Officials from the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate showcased the designs for AlUla International Airport's second terminal at the Future Investment Initiative meeting, as disclosed by the Saudi Press Agency.

These designs draw inspiration from AlUla's ancient urban legacy, aiming to resonate with the site's cultural and natural surroundings.

As a result of a global contest that saw participation from leading design firms, these designs are a pivotal aspect of the ongoing expansion efforts at the airport.

The intent is to bolster air links to diverse local and international destinations, solidifying AlUla's stature as a critical logistics nexus in the Kingdom's northwest.

This development aims to ramp up the airport's passenger throughput – which earned its international status in March 2021 – from the current 400,000 annually to an impressive 6 million.
The airport's footprint is also set to grow, covering an estimated 2.4 million square meters.

New features in the expansion blueprint comprise a hotel, spa, and an array of amenities designed to enrich the AlUla visitor experience. These enhancements seamlessly blend with the world's grandest open-air museum and are backed by state-of-the-art tech infrastructure, aligning with global benchmarks.
This initiative mirrors the anticipated surge in air traffic towards this emerging global hotspot. It harmonizes with AlUla's forward-looking perspective, congruent with Vision 2030's goals, all while cherishing and spotlighting the governorate's rich historical, ecological, and cultural tapestry.
